Sami is the port at the bottom of the Ithaca channel. The port is run by a father/son team (before, and still in 2020) who help boats come in, and direct them where to go. Unlike the italian Ormeggiatore, these guys are true pros and the moorage here is something rediculous like 10-20 euros a day, which sometimes they forget to collect. You have to be a good citizen and make sure you pay them! They zip around on a little scooter, its quite fun to watch them they work really hard! Sami for the most part is a Med Moor, with anchor out and stern to the quay, but sometimes if you commit to stay a while they can put you along side in one or two spots. Because the harbor is small and there are many visitors, anchors get crossed here ALL the time. Please help your fellow boaters! And if its possible, STAY A WHILE! The place is worth a stay :) There are groceries and tavernas within easy walk. There is WIFI at some of the tavernas. There are rental cars in town. The place is somehow cooler than many other spots in the Ionian, it was never hot here, for us.
If for some reason the inner port is so full that you cannot go in, only go stern to to the outside in very settled weather. The wind waves and ferry surge are quite real on the outside.
