Gdansk has been an important seaport since medieval times and subsequently an important ship-building centre. After the second world war the historic part of the town (Stare Miasto) was rebuilt and now presents a most attractive city to visit.
It takes about half an hour to reach the marina in the centre of the historic city from the entrance of the river. Beware of the many ferries darting across the channels.
