Chiloe Island : Profile

Location

This large island, in northern Patagonia, lies about 25NM south of Puerto Montt. It is a facinating place for both its environment and cultural activities. A large part of the western part of the island is a National park.

The town of Castro, in the centrte of the eastern coast, is characterized by its fleets of yellow fishing boats and distinctive palafito houses built on stilts above the water. It is the capital of the island.

Docking

The marina at Quinched is a good, safe and sheltered place to visit. It is isolated (15 km from Castro, 12 km from Chonchi), but it is possible to borrow the 4x4 from the marina for trips the either town for provisioning and fetching fuel (in cans).

The marina has mooring buoys as well as pontoon berths.

Quinched Marina
Chiloe Island, Chile
Position 42°34.7'S, 073°45.3' W. This is a small marina with water and electricity on floating pontoons. Showers, toilets, laundry and WiFi. Very well sheltered. A small clubhouse with a kitchen, barbecue and dining room.
