  St. John's : Profile

Clearance

This is not the most convenient place to clear in as it is set up for ships rather than yachts.

The port facilities are at the outer end of the peninsula running west into the middle of the harbour and its use is restricted to commercial vessels. The inner harbour, between the deepwater port and town waterfront, is used by small local craft with less than 6 ft (1.8 m) draft. Yachts may come alongside either the deep water dock or, more conveniently, at the head of the Heritage Quay Dock, close to Customs House. Clearance is done at the Port Authority offices in the deepwater dock on the north side of the harbour.

Docking

The inner harbour between the deep water port and St John's waterfront provides a good anchorage with secure holding in mud for yachts drawing less than 9ft. Ensure you anchor on the 12ft shelf and not in the dredged cruise ship turning circle. No fees are charged for anchoring here. Dinghies can be left at Treasury Pier and water is avalable at Keeling Point.
