Two sailors’ epic eastbound journey halfway around the globe

Peter and Ginger Niemann cruised Europe, before becoming stranded in Turkey due to the pandemic. Their previous world trip was in a 47ft sloop Marcy, sailing west-about from Seattle, rounding the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Horn, from 2006 to 2010. After 4 months locked down in Turkey, they needed to return to home (Seattle), so came up with a bold plan to return via the Red Sea, across the Indian Ocean and into the Pacific, crossing eastward in the northern latitudes. This is the story of their almost one-year journey back home – for Yachting World Magazine (July 2022).
