St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Bequia, Admiralty Bay: Sailor Shot and Wounded – July 2012

During the late night of Saturday, July 21st, a yacht anchored off Princess Margaret Beach in Admiralty Bay, Bequia, was approached by men in a small open boat. They asked the yacht owner for a wrench to fix their outboard.

When the yacht owner, the only person aboard the yacht, came up into the cockpit, he realized that someone was also on deck. He grabbed a winch handle and shouted at them to get off his boat. At that point, one of the men shot him and they all fled.

The yacht owner was wounded in the leg and treated at the hospital in Kingstown, St. Vincent. Police are investigating.

Update 30 July 2012

Latest reports are that the yacht owner who was shot is okay; expected to fly home to the UK on Wednesday. Currently there is no news of arrests.
