Port Vila Notes from a resident sailor

Eric Leroux is a French resident and lives on board his yacht Musique in Port Vila. He is a sailmaker and charter skipper and has sent noonsite some local shoreside tips for visiting cruising sailors.

Health

There is a new emergency French doctor, probably the best one today in Port Vila for any consulting; his name is Jean Philippe King ( Tel: 77 82 231) and his surgery is located on the waterfront ABOVE the medical centre (I personally do not recommend seeing the doctors of the medical centre, except if you have a cold).

There is also a new dentist I recommend for his up to date technique and equipment and good prices. He is just in the waterfront building above the travel agency. “Novo Dental”, phone 26 69.

For pain in the bones and muscles, I recommend the Thai massage in front of the casino/grant hotel, very close to the waterfront. Here the ladies have a high level of knowledge, kind of like “massage doctors”.

Seeing the Island

To do something fun in Efate, I can recommend renting a quad bike to visit the island. Go to “On – Wheels”, E-mail: [email protected] or phone 777 20 30. Their bikes are new and the service very good. Located at the turning to the main wharf (behind FR8 /DHL).

A good way to disconnect for a night from the sea and the boat has a night in a tree house, in the middle of the forest. I think noonsite already lists this fantastic spot. See lamaisondubanian.com; contact: Odile 53 57 495 to reserve.

I hope all this can help; anyone who needs information is welcome to come and talk to me on board Musique.
