French Polynesia, Bora Bora: Deck equipment stolen – July 2014

Previous Page

Report Intro

Last Update - July 24, 2014

Report Content

We are in Bora Bora and I would like to report that both of our offshore fishing rods were lifted from the boat during a two hour period while we were on a neighbors boat a little distance away. I attempted to report to the Gendarmerie on two separate days, however, they were really not all that interested in taking down any of the information.

This is in hope that cruisers will be more vigilant in locking up and removing loose items from the deck.

Since this happened to us we have heard of several other boats who have had fishing rods go missing in the past couple of weeks.

The theft on our boat occurred on July 2nd, 2014.

The lack of reporting or communication on the Gendarmerie is pretty sad and will/is resulting in more and more of these incidents.

It appears the Polynesian Islands will be a bypass until we see some efforts by the local governing body to create safe harbors for tourists/cruisers.
