January 2013

We’ve just spent six weeks cruising the north-west coast of Cuba from Varadero to Los Morros marina.  Our yacht “Alba” is a British registered Hallberg Rassy 42F and we had no problems with the authorities apart from the usual bureaucracy.

We used Nigel Calder’s cruising guide which we found to be accurate in most places.  Our Navionics electronics charts were okay in some places, but up to half a mile out in other spots.  We’ve created a set of navigation notes that can be found on our web site giving GPS positions for entrances to the reefs and pointing out discrepancies in the charts and cruising guides.

The navigation notes can be found at http://www.thehowarths.net/albacronicles/cruising-notes
