Colombia: Bahia Guyraca – Armed Attack & Robbery

Published 14 years ago, updated 5 years ago

As reported on Cruisers_Network_Online

The following is an email we received on May 31, 2010, about a recent event in Bahia Guyraca – the 3rd of the 5 Bays along the Colombia coast. A shame to hear about this and Guyraca was one of the best places to stop.

Everyone — please be careful.

We will add a caution to our Colombia Cruising Guide.

A quick mail to report that we have been attacked in the 5 bays on May 28.

At night while sleeping 2 guys got onboard with a gun. We have been attacked, beaten up, everything from a dinghy to paper, computer, passports, money, GPS etc was stolen.

Coast guard and police were completely unreliable even though I speak fluent Spanish.

I think it should be advisable to let people know in your guide that the 3rd bay is not as safe as said. This is the second attack there within the last 3 months and according to many local people, this is not a safe area anymore.

We are very shocked by this terrible experience.

Brice from Alofa.
