Tragic incident off the Sao Luis Yacht Club.

Tragically on February 15, 2015, Ronald François Wolbeek from Holland, was murdered by pirates who boarded his yacht whilst at anchor off Sao Luis Yacht Club.

He was shot in the chest in front of his wife, who jumped overboard once she realized her husband was dead and swam to safety.

The criminals fled after the attack and to date have not been caught.

Ronald and his wife arrived in Brazil on December 21st and had arrived in Sao Luis the afternoon of February 14th.

Cruisers are advised to avoid this región.
