A Word of Advice about Spanish Mooring Costs

A useful message received From Meir Riba

Subject: Spanish mooring costs “adventures”

We sailed a Lagoon400 along Spanish shores this spring and had several incidents that perhaps are worth sharing.

In Alicante, we have entered the Real Club de Regatas. The price quoted at the office per day was surprisingly low – €36. When I have returned to the boat, a Marinero came by, apologizing, and told me that there was a mistake and the actual price is €98 per day. I have walked again to the office where I was brazenly told that the price is € 182.5 per day. At this point, we have left the marina seeking different premises.

Wise from the above experience, I have called in advance to Real Club Nautico in Palma de Majorca and booked a berth at a quoted price of €120 p/d. Imagine my surprise when I was asked after arrival to pay €185 p/d. There was no record of my booking and I was asked to produce a fax confirmation and accused of lying.

The issue is not the high cost – it is the inability to get reliable information.
