General Info
Wallis Island (Uvea in Polynesia) is about 300nm west of Samoa. It bears the name of the first European sailor who discovered it in 1767, Captain Samuel Wallis.
Wallis, the most northerly island in the Wallis and Futuna archipelago is relatively flat, bordered by a lagoon and a coral reef with four passes. The main one – Honikulu in the south – leads through a marked channel to Mata-Utu , the capital of the Territory, which is situated on the eastern side of the island.
It is the most populated of the Wallis and Futuna archipelago with about 12,000 people living there.
