General Info
Description:
This is an attractive town of narrow, cobbled streets with a strong Venetian influence. It is the nearest Port of Entry to Italy with connections to Trieste airport.
Position:
45°32.90’N, 13°43.28’E (old harbor)
Clearance
This is a Port of Entry and the Authorities are available all year round.
For full details on clearing into and out of the country including all paperwork required see Slovenia Formalities.
To clear in, tie up to the short pier in the old harbor, making sure not to obstruct the ferries.
Docking
There are two harbors here. The old harbor (to the west of the town) is the one used by yachts, the other being the commercial port.
Old Harbor
Although sheltered, a surge can enter the old harbor in strong winds from the west, southwest and northwest. There are stern-to berths on the pier on the northern side of the old harbor, but watch the depth.
It is also possible to anchor south of the short pier in the old harbor, but this is rather exposed.
Marina
There is also a marina to the north of the centre of the old city.
When approaching the marina, beware of the swimming area to stand (marked by buoys) close by the entrance.
