Free Interactive Service For Sailing & Boating Enthusiasts Combines Detailed Weather Forecasts With Localized Marine Data From ActiveCaptain.
Weather Underground, the world’s first online weather service, today launched a new Sailing & Boating weather page on wunderground.com, providing boaters with detailed, local weather information alongside specialist marine data from partner ActiveCaptain. The service can be found under the Travel and Activities section of the site or at www.wunderground.com/sailing-weather/.
Weather Underground’s unrivaled network of 16,000 personal weather stations across the US reports current wind speed and direction readings and generates the most localized and reliable coastal weather forecasts. The detailed wave graphs separate out swell and wind waves to effectively prepare sailors for conditions out on the water. Tide charts also allow users to view both historical and future tidal data.
ActiveCaptain provides specialized, local marine information that is plotted on an interactive map. Featured data points include the nearest anchorage, marine hazards, local knowledge, and nearest marinas. Weather Underground’s animated radar and satellite data are also available as extra layers on the map.
“Weather plays such a crucial role in the safety and enjoyment of all boating activities and our new page will serve the sailing community with an invaluable free resource,” said Alan Steremberg, President and co-founder of Weather Underground. “Designed for professionals and hobbyists alike our page is a one-stop shop for planning any boating or sailing trip.”
“We are excited about the possibilities this partnership will provide to the boating community,” states Jeffrey Siegel of ActiveCaptain. “Few sites have the reach of Weather Underground, providing a huge outlet for ActiveCaptain data. Combining our data with high-quality weather information makes for a practically perfect service.”
The service currently provides data for all of the US coast and limited data in the Caribbean.
