Cruising in Portugal Seminar

Sunday 13th September 09:00-11:00

Southampton Boat Show

This year, WCC is organising a special free-to-attend seminar on “Cruising in Portugal” to be held at the Southampton Boat Show. Those attending the two-hour seminar can expect to gain an interesting insight to exploring the Portuguese coast, and be inspired to set sail on their own adventure. Practical weather, training and safety advice will be discussed, particularly for those who may be planning to cross the Bay of Biscay for the first time.

The seminar will have a special emphasis on ARC Portugal, which has been run annually by World Cruising Club for twenty-one years. The rally departs from Plymouth, the UK in June and crosses the Bay of Biscay to Bayona, then cruises south in a series of day sails with stopovers in welcoming marinas along the way to finish in Marina de Lagos a little over three weeks later.

The finishing port for the rally, Marina de Lagos, is renowned as one of the premier marinas on the Portuguese Coast. Ingrid Fortunato, the Manager at Marina de Lagos, will be at the seminar to provide advice about further local cruising and the practicalities to consider for basing your yacht in Portugal.

The seminar is free to attend with advanced registration and attendees will receive a complimentary entry ticket to the Southampton Boat Show at the seminar.

Launch of ARC Channel Islands

Sunday 13 September 2015, 15:30 to 17:00

RYA Lounge, Southampton Boat Show

World Cruising Club are joining forces with RYA Active Marina and Practical Boat Owner magazine to offer both novice and experienced sail cruisers the chance to join the first-ever ARC Channel Islands in August 2016.

Anyone interested in cruising to the Channel Islands is invited to discover more about the rally at the official launch party and information event being held during Southampton Boat Show.

The launch will provide an opportunity to learn about the rally, first-time channel crossings and what makes the Channel Islands so popular among UK cruisers. There will be experts from World Cruising Club, the RYA and Channel Islands harbours on hand to answer any questions you may have, as well as participants from previous RYA Sail Cruises, giving a chance to mix with likeminded sailors.

To celebrate the rally’s launch, leading chart publishers Imray is offering a set of Channel Islands charts and pilot books (worth £270) for a prize draw.

The launch is free to attend with advanced registration at http://tinyurl.com/channelislandsrally  [Broken Link]
