The UK’s Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a product recall for 11 models of lifejackets that were being sold through the Amazon online marketplace.

The products being recalled by the OPSS include a children’s floating vest and all presented ‘a serious risk of drowning’, with many not performing in the water as expected.

In an alert issued on its website, the OPSS said “The products do not meet the requirements of the relevant regulations and show no demonstration of having been conformity assessed.

“The products are classed as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).  The products were not supplied with the required compliance documentation or markings to demonstrate that they have been adequately conformity assessed.  Mandatory third-party conformity assessment is required by the relevant regulations for those products, which protect against more serious risks.  The absence of independent assessment for these products may increase the risk to the consumer that the product may not perform as expected when relied upon to protect them in the water.

“The products do not meet the requirements of the PPE Regulation 2016/425.”

OPSS recommends owners stop using the products immediately and contact the distributor they purchased the product from.

The products have been recalled from end users and the listings have now been removed by Amazon.
