As Tropical Storm Philippe dropped heavy rains on Antigua and Barbuda this week, a fire broke out in the Yacht Club marina complex, destroying the marina offices and businesses according to a report from the Ocean Cruising Club.
However, the marina remains intact and the channels are reportedly clear.

No one was hurt in the blaze but the commercial building in Falmouth Harbour, Antigua, which housed the Dock Master’s Office, Cloggy’s restaurant, Turtle Surf Shop, Skulduggery bar and café, Ari fish shop, Dockside Supermarket, Marina Gym and the Seabreeze bar and café were completely destroyed.

Heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Philippe caused extensive flooding in both Antigua and Barbuda. The Meteorological Service said four to six inches of rainfall were expected to affect the islands later this week.

Joe Karpinski, Seven Seas Cruising Association’s (SSCA) Antigua host also advised Noonsite of the fire, but confirmed none of the marina docks, facilities or boats were damaged in the fire.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.  However, at the time of the blaze Antigua was experiencing heavy rains, lightning and widespread flooding from Tropical Storm Philippe,” he said.
