The Ascension Island Tourist Information Office is a fledgling enterprise. Initiated by the Ascension Island Government in June 2013, the AITIO was established with a view to encouraging visitors to come to Ascension and subsequently providing a range of services – including tours – for their enjoyment. The AITIO works very closely with the Conservation Department to ensure that all tourism activities are carried out in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner. Conservation team members are often involved in tours and provide an insight into current conservation projects and research. It is the aim of the AITIO to establish a tourism industry on Ascension which is small but sustainable and which directly supports the work of the Conservation team on island.
