Cuba, Marea de Portillo

A lovely place, very rural with pigs, goats and chickens absolutely everywhere. We anchored off the old dock.

Pilotage: Straightforward

Clearance: Eventually a Guarda came out to us, took our details and returned the following morning with our dispatch.

Anchorage: Near the fishing harbor, good shelter, good holding.

Ashore: We landed near the fishing boats. A lady who lived in a cottage near the beach was keen to barter bananas with us. We were very badly prepared but offered a few pesos which she accepted happily, but, one felt, would have preferred soap, toothpaste or whatever. The village had a small shop and bakery. Unfortunately, bread was only available to order. However, we could have some bread-sticks. We took two, delicious.
