This is a good anchorage in anything but westerlies. There are a few bommies to get wrapped around so we buoyed the chain to keep it off the bottom.
It is a stunning spot with good snorkelling and a couple of motus to wander around. If southerlies or strong easterlies come in head south and anchor off the village of Kuma on the main island.
The ITCZ sits close to Butaritari, so plenty of rain to keep the tanks full, but the wind can come from any direction at relatively short notice. Keep an eye on the location of the ITCZ and when it gets close pay a little more attention to what’s going on.
