This is a reply received from USCG regarding the delay in issuing documents, dated Dec 9th 2010.

"Unfortunately our growing recreational vessel backlog is due to some internal personnel issues here at the NVDC. We are sorry for the inconvenience that this is having on you, but please be assured that we are doing all that we can, within our control, to resolve the problem. We take pride in providing the best customer service that we possibly can. This is and will continue to be our goal. Please continue to check "Case Processing Dates" on our website for updates. Thank you for your patience."

Our thanks to Ethan VanMatre for passing on this information.

Joan has now been able to contact the Coast Guard office and was told that there is no delay in processing the paperwork. We have no answer as to why the website shows that there is one.

According to the Coast Guard website, there is now a significant backlog in the issuing of documents for US recreational vessels. This applies to both the initial documents as well as renewals.

As many harbours in the US require to see these documents, the current 5 month delay could cause many boaters some difficulties. Having copies of the forms submitted and any evidence of the date on which this was done, might well be helpful.

See for the latest situation.

Our thanks to Joan Palango of SY Panchita for bringing this to the attention of Noonsite.
