Hurricane Martin

November is the final month of the official hurricane season and it started with Tropical Storm Martin forming in the central North Atlantic on Tuesday November 1, becoming the 13th named storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season. On Wednesday, Martin became the seventh hurricane of the season before turning into a powerful post-tropical cyclone Thursday afternoon.

Martin poses no threat to the U.S. and is expected to continue on a northward track through Friday before winds weaken to tropical storm force. Martin is then expected to move east toward Ireland and Scotland, where it could create rough weather this weekend.

Hurricane Lisa

Hurricane Lisa made landfall in Belize on Wednesday as a strong Category 1 storm and was then expected to cross northern Guatemala and move into southeastern Mexico by Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center. Lisa should then make a gradual turn toward the west-northwest as its forward movement decreases into Friday.

According to Brian McNoldy, senior research associate at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School, Hurricane Lisa would join Nana in 2020, Earl in 2016, and Richard in 2010 as the last hurricanes to make landfall in Belize.

The simultaneous development of Hurricane Martin and Hurricane Lisa in the Atlantic is only the third time since 1900 that there have been two November hurricanes at the same time.  This happened previously in 1932 and 2001.
