Gambian dalasi (GAD) of 100 bututs.

Certain African currencies cannot be exchanged including those of Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. CFA francs are accepted. All foreign currency must be declared on arrival.

Credit cards are only normally accepted with prior approval.

Communications

International Dialing Code for Gambia is +220.

There are GSM mobile telephone networks, but not all countries have roaming agreements; US mobile phones will not work. Coverage is limited to Banjul and a few other areas.

For Internet, the best solution is to buy a Sim Card or a Stick. The telephone company QCell is stationed in every big village and most of the time the internet will be fast enough for skype. In the coastal area it works very well.

Internet cafes are available in Banjul and the major tourist resorts.

Transport

The bus service is well organised and serves most parts of the country.

The Gambia River is the major transport highway through the country.
