  Hurghada : Profile

Clearance

Formalities are lengthy if not using an agent (it is possible officials may refuse to deal with you directly, if you choose not to hire an agent). Each arrival must be registered with immigration. All foreign flagged boats are liable for a Customs Fee, which will be done with the Agent in Hurghada, along with the other paperwork.

When you arrive in Hurghada Port, you can either come alongside the dock (if there's space between the fast ferry and fishing boats) or drop anchor just outside. Clearance must be complete before moving to a marina. Call the agent "Fantasia" on VHF 16, who will take ship documents, passports, and last Port Clearance. As it can take up to four hours to complete formalities, yachts wishing to go on to Abu Tig Marina the same day should arrive early. The agent will keep the documents in order to finish all the necessary clearances then bring them to the Abu Tig Marina within one day. The marina states that they have had many yachts clear in this way without any problems. Agency fee US$60.

Other agents who can complete the Hurghada as well as Canal Transit formalities:

Ibrahim Slama, Tel. 002-062-3322251, Fax: 002-0623334301/0663333510.

Najib Latif, email: 105380.felix@felix-eg.com, Felix Agency.

It is better to turn up at Hurghada Port early in the morning and try and avoid Fridays as most officials will be off or away praying.

Written permission is required to move the boat anywhere within the port, even to get fuel.
