  Roseau : Profile

Location

Roseau, the capital of Dominica, is on the west coast, towards the sothern tip of the island. It has some wonderfully attractive old buildings, many of which have been recently restored. The whole town has an authentic caribbean atmosphere.

Cruisers should be aware that a number of night-time boardings and robberies have been reported here.

Clearance

Customs and Immigration are at the new ferry terminal. The office is usually open 0800-1300,1400-1600 (Mon- Fri), sometimes Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons. It does depend on the ferry schedule. Alternatively, clear in at the deepwater port north of Roseau.

ESEA Clear is in operation in Roseau. Simply fill in the clearance forms via wifi from the boat and go to customs/immigration by the cruise dock and just give them the reference number.

Docking

There are buoys off the town but the two nearest the cruise ship dock cannot be used when there is a cruise ship in. Contact Fort Young VHF 16. These buoys are the closest to the town, but there are more further south. It is advisable to check the state of any mooring used.

The main yacht anchorage is between the Green Flash Bar and Sea World.

There is also stern-to berthing at the wall in front of the Anchorage Hotel, which has a dinghy dock. There are plans to extend this facility to offer fuel and water.

A new facility has opened at the Drop Anchor bar, just 15 minutes from the centre of Roseau.
