Following the attack on SY Mendocino Queen whilst at anchor in Tobago Cays on the night of 2 July (see report here), noonsite has received the following update from Mayreau Harbor Patrol.

Received From: Mayreau Harbor Patrol

Subject: Re burglary Tobago Cays 2nd July 2011

Message:

Please be informed that those guys were caught about a week ago by a joint effort between Canouan and Union Island police. They were since charged for several offenses and are presently in prison awaiting trial.

Mayreau Harbor Patrol (MHP) is a group founded by four policemen from the said island. The four members are police constables Forde, Isaacs, Alexander, and Hazell. The group owns a patrol boat name “Mayreau Patrol” with two outboard motors. MHP’s main mission is to patrol the harbors of Mayreau and make it safe, especially at night.

This group is a non-governmental organization and non-profit group, funded partly by Tobago Cays Marine Park and the four constables. They are currently looking for more sponsors and volunteers to help run this much-needed operation. Patrols are only possible when gasoline is available which is sometimes provided by Tobago Cays Marine Park and the four constables. If there is a constant supply of fuel to this operation the group will be able to put some more proactive measures in place when it comes to security at the harbors between Mayreau and Tobago Cays.

For more information contact MHP on telephone number 17844975322.

For any emergencies between Mayreau and the Tobago Cays telephone 17845302752/17844952380 or 17845278412.
