New Zealand: Marine Industry Association publish new destination guide

The New Zealand Marine Industry Association (NZ Marine) has published a brand-new information guide and directory for visiting superyachts and smaller cruising craft, unlike anything else available in the world.

Published 11 years ago, updated 5 years ago

Called Destination New Zealand, the book combines detailed up-to-date information of the regulatory requirements for vessels planning to visit New Zealand as well as a directory of over 100 NZ Marine member companies which provide services and products to visiting craft.

Published as a printed book and in an interactive electronic format, Destination New Zealand is the result of a team effort from NZ Marine Industry Association personnel, member companies and government departments to collate the highly-useable material about New Zealand’s biosecurity, immigration, tax and other regulations frequently required by owners and crew of visiting yachts.

Peter Busfield, executive director of NZ Marine, says: “New Zealand, as a destination, offers scenic beauty and many adventures and leisure experiences for the owners and guests of cruising yachts.

“Currently over 600 smaller cruising craft (10-24 metres) and 35 superyachts (24-90 metres) visit New Zealand and these numbers continue to increase each year.”

Destination New Zealand provides key details and website links to the regional tourism organisations which, in turn, offer a wealth of information and resources for travellers.

An equally important component of the publication is the yacht maintenance and refit directory.

Busfield says: “The directory of refit products and services highlights many NZ Marine member companies that have become increasingly well-known for their talents as refit providers for those boat owners seeking to combine leisure travel with maintenance and refit work on their vessel. The world-class standards of workmanship and design of numerous yachts refitted in New Zealand have been recognised through international awards presented to the yachts’ owners and the companies involved.

“The NZ Marine Industry Training Organisation also plays a key role in continuing to build a skilled and talented workforce in the marine sector with their highly-regarded, world-leading boatbuilding, spar-making and other marine-related apprenticeship programmes. From these programmes, the world’s best marine tradespeople are ready to complete complex major refits.”

A PDF version of Destination New Zealand e-book can be accessed via this link [Broken Link] or via the Destination New Zealand tab on www.nzmarine.com and will be updated with new refit product and service providers on a regular basis. The new publication has also been promoted on NZ Marine’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/NewZealandMarineIndustryAssociation.
