Online sailing communities and apps: Speaking to Sailing La Vagabonde stars
This article by Yachting World (March 2025) explores how social media has changed how cruisers meet and communicate.
Modern apps, like SeaPeople and NoForeignLand, are transforming the traditional cruising community by offering a digital platform tailored specifically for sailors. Influencers Riley Whitelum and Elayna Carausu of Sailing La Vagabonde collaborated with the Young Cruisers Association to launch SeaPeople in autumn 2024, providing live positioning, crew-finding, dating, and local info features. NoForeignLand, founded in 2017, offers map-based discovery, anchor recommendations and interest-based groups. Both apps enhance in-the-moment advice and connection ― especially when satellite internet is available.
