I need to get my boat from Seattle to Sihanoukville in Cambodia. The obvious route (and most direct) seems to be from Seattle to Hawaii, then to the Marshall islands, then to the Carolines. From there to the Phillipines and then N. W. to the Gulf of Thailand. Do you have any thoughts on this route? Weather, best time of year? And more specific routing ideas? Any help will be musch appreciated. My tentative plan is to leave Seattle in March headed for Hawaii to arrive in Cambodia (6?) months later.
The route you outlined is, as you say, both the best and most direct. The one problem as I can see it is your timing. Really, you should have been in Hawaii by now and leave for points west in January so as to avoid the worst of the cyclone season in the N. Pacific (May to December). To change that is of course too late, so I suggest you get the boat ready, find a good window and make it to Hawaii asap. Then sail not in 6 months but more like 2 months all the way to Cambodia. You should have no problem getting there in this time, even with a few stops.
