Kilmore Quay - General Info

Description:

A useful port of call on Ireland’s SE Coast. The harbour needs to be approached with caution and it is advisable to avoid arriving at low water. However, the entrance is well marked, although it is exposed to SE winds.

There is now a Safe Water Mark in approx position 52° 9.3′ N, 6° 35.4′ W (WGS84 Datum). This is directly on the leading line transits and therefore useful if crossing St Patrick’s Bridge in less than ideal visibility. It is safer to use this rather than rely on GPS positions.

Kilmore Quay is a very active fishing harbour and fishing trawlers enter and exit the very narrow marina entrance at all hours (especially at HW+/-2).

Position:

52° 9.76′ N, 6° 35.24′ W (harbour approach)

One other thing to mention might be that I would not advise approaching the marina from the east or southeast at all unless at high tide (or at least HW+/-2).

For skippers unfamiliar with the area, it is best to keep to the west of the Saltee Islands and use the Safe Water Mark to the leading lines and avoid crossing St.Patricks Bridge.

Kilmore Quay has new fuel berth and updated facilities (including showers, toilets, etc). The fuel dock is self-service by credit card.

Also, let me emphasize: the shelter is absolutely excellent, probably because the entrance to the marina is relatively shallow and very narrow. The walls are high and the winds stay out. We have been here for Force 9 winds and 4m+ waves/swells. Great little marina and amazing people!
