Antwerp : Profile
Although 60 km from the sea, Antwerp is the second biggest commercial harbour in Europe and consequently, the Schelde is a very busy waterway. The city is also an important centre for the diamond trade and, despite the damage suffered during two world wars, has many historic sights worth visiting.
It is possible from here to travel as far as Brussels without removing the mast.
Waiting for Royersluis (VHF 22) possible on inside of ferry jetty opposite Royersluis slow and crowded (1-2 hour delay). Harbour Master suggests using Boudewinjnsluis and Van Cauwelaertsluis as quicker alternative, especially if approaching from sea. Entrance bridges into marina are timed as per sign on the wall (VHF 62). Fee for sluices waived if you state you are headed for Willemdock yachthaven.
