Mediterranean Marinas we have experienced

Published 14 years ago, updated 5 years ago

My family and I are currently cruising in the med aboard “Mojito” our St. Francis 44′ sailing catamaran and thought we would provide the following update on several marinas that we have used recently.

SMIR Marina in Morocco had relatively good docking facilities and the immigration and customs offices were housed in marina’s office making checking in a breeze. There were however no ATM, laundry facilities nor any Wi-fi even though this is advertised on their website. We paid approx E65.00/day for our slip.

We sailed to Ceuta, which is a charming and clean little Spanish town. We stayed at the marina there and again there were no laundry facilities (not even in town) and no Wi-fi, we paid approx E55.00 per day for our slip.

We sailed to Ibiza and attempted to stay at the Puerto Deportiva de Ibiza, but they wanted the incredible rate of E480.00 per day, therefore we opted not to stay there and anchored in Cala Talamanca next door for free and signed up for Wi-fi from the Playa Real Hotel. We had to travel into Ibiza itself and found Wash & Dry, a laundry facility on Avenida Espana.

We are now in Premia de Mar just north of Barcelona, this is the most cost-effective marina we have found so far. We are paying E860.00 per month for our slip. There is no laundry and no ATM, but there is free Wi-fi in the main office and the staff are super friendly and accommodating. There is also a train station 10 minutes away that takes you into Barcelona.

All the staff at the Premia de Mar Marina speak English, this is a big plus for anyone planning to stay here. There is also a little convenience store across the street and to the right, five minutes away with groceries, fresh fruit, veg and baguettes.

Furthermore, we have found a laundry in Barcelona on Carrera Nou de la Rambla. Walking up La Rambla from the Columbus Circle, it is located on a street on the left-hand side half way between the Drassanes and Liceu Metro station.

ATM’s are widely available all along this walk.

The marina here is new, comfortable and very safe, aside from the absence of the above services, I recommend it as a cost-effective area to spend time or even to winter over.

We are hopeful that this information proves helpful to those following in our footsteps.
