Description:

Kaş (pronounced “Kash”) is a small fishing, diving, yachting, and tourist town, situated midway between Finike and Fethiye on a hill running down to the sea. As a tourist town, it is relatively unspoiled.

The port is attractive, although it can be rather airless in the hottest part of the summer. During the winter months, the town stays pretty active and is becoming a popular place to spend the winter (see comments at bottom of page).

Position:

36° 11.78’N, 29° 38.58’E (harbor entrance)

We (Sailing A B Sea) have just over wintered (2018/19) in Kas harbour.

Great location moored stern to on the inside quay of the harbour. 1,000 lira per month. Water and electricity available.

Plenty of shops and restaurants still open in the winter. Very friendly and helpful locals.

Kas marina is only an hours sail away if you need to have work done, pump out black water or hide from big winter storms.

Fuel is delivered by truck on the quayside.

Harbour does get a bit bouncy if there are strong winds from the west.

A very quaint, comfortable and safe town. Highly recommended for a winter stay.

Stayed at Kas marina for a few days this May. Very good impressions, nice, not too crowded, no charter fleets, clean, well managed and friendly. Only a few minutes walk to town. Would recommend to anyone in the area.

September 2015 – Kas and Kekova.

Two of us went for 10 days, our boat is based in Kas and we wanted to do paddle boarding and also have some peace at anchor. Karaloz is a favourite of ours, a little small for paddle boarding but ideal for peace and tranquility – however it was plagued with wasps. At one point we were trapped in the boat for two hours at dawn.
After the first night, we decided to try Gokkaya Limani and had a lovely time. There is lots of anchorage space and many little corners and coves that you can have mostly to yourself. Good holding in thick mud, the water is a little cloudy, but it is due to a spring and patches of cold water, very refreshing.
We hired paddle boards from Seven Cape Sports, Dean Livesly, an ex-pat, delivered them to the boat at Kas and collected them from there after we left. A great service and we discovered he does kayak tours and walking tours on the Lycian Way.
We called into Ucagiz to empty the tank after reading a cruising association post that said they had a pump out facility. They don’t have a facility for yachts, the area where the pump operates is approx 1m or so deep in the inner basin of the marina.
Visited the castle at Kale Koy and stayed over at Hassan Deniz restaurant, they have 3m at the outer end and about 2m at the top if you are the first boat in. Decent food and very clean.

As of 15 Aug, :S/V Far Away “was robbed of cash only, at KAS port, three weeks ago just before we exited Turkey. I had a feeling it was done by locals who watch the foreign boats, possibly harbour officials in collusion with the agent as their behaviour was very suspicious and we were basically ‘pushed” out of the port/harbour once the check out was completed, very unpleasant. We were unable to report the matter to the police as the robbery occurred the night before we left, discovered when we returned to the boat after dining out. We exited at 8.30am and no one wanted to hear about the robbery, just wanted us to leave! Another Australian boat we met, felt uncomfortable there also.”

With a total of about 15 years of cruising in various parts of the world, I have never had a better experience at any marina than at the Kas Marina. We wintered our boat over 2014 to 2015 on the hard at their boatyard.

The marina is kept meticulously clean. The layout and scenery are spectacular. The waters surrounding the marina are like an inland lake in that you cannot see the ocean in any direction giving good protection against swells. There is an adjacent hotel and pool with free access to marina guests. The management is very friendly, competent and co-operative and most everyone speaks good English. There are restaurants and a real supermarket on the premises. There is a Friday market and bazaar ten minutes away. The actual town is another five minutes away and has many inexpensive restaurants with fabulous traditional fare. What more can I say? Don’t miss this marina.
