Description:

Sanlucar lies approximately 20 Miles up the Guardiana River (which marks the border between Spain and Portugal) on the East (Spanish) bank opposite Alcoutim. It is an attractive place with whitewashed houses.

See also Ayamonte, which lies just 3nm upstream from the mouth of the river Guardiana.

    Do not confuse this Sanlucar with the much better known Sanlucar de Barrameda, at the mouth of the Guadalquivir river leading to Sevilla! Sanlucar de Barrameda is one of the three cities famous for its sherry.
