We anchored near the Village. The place is packed and it can be difficult to find a place. The other choice would be to anchor further in the channel. at low tide the water level was 2m minimum. When passing the channel at high tide we noticed water level about 1.7 for few seconds between the green and the red buoy in the lagoon.
The city is full of restaurant and bars. one small grocery at the top of the main street at left.

Alvor is beautiful. We always anchor just inside the breakwater; always room and not overcrowded even on the weekends (although can be tight for swinging room). This anchorage is a far better choice than Portimao, which although is nice, has a lot of swell from the ocean, and more important, there is no continual dance music blasting until 4am every night!

We have been moored in Alvor, close by the town, since Christmas. We took a day trip from Lagos to check it out before we went through the winding channel with the boat.

Talked to some local fishermen and was able to use one of their buoy. There are several other boats here that seem to be more or less permanently anchored.

The town is very quaint, there is not a lot of facilities available in Alvor but the bigger town PortimaƵ is only 5 km away.
