The boatyard next to the marina is able to handle repairs to GRP, wood, steel and aluminium. No travel lift, but there is a crane (6 tonnes). Povoa de Varzim has the closest travel lift (32 tons).

Repair facilities for yachts are restricted to the area around the marina in Leixoes. Any of the local yacht clubs or the port captain’s office are the best source of information on the facilities available. Most workshops are for commercial vessels, but they could work on a yacht if necessary.

We just spent one night in this Marina Porto Atlantico having been here about 10 years ago. It seems that little or no maintenance has been done, some of the pontoons are held together with ropes and straps.

Seagull has taken over the visitors pontoon, make sure to wear solid foot ware to when going ashore. We have arrived shortly before closing time, the last VHF transmission said that someone would direct us to a berth.

Seemed that closing time and going home was more important than looking after customers, we never did hear or see anyone from the marina and the office was closed. There is no security and lots of noise from the container port next to the marina.

We emailed Porto Atlantico to pay for our stay, we promptly got an invoice for 32 euro for our 14 footers which we paid. As a comparison, the next morning we moved to Douro marina in Porto, charges 36 euro (discounts are available), beautiful new and modern marina with all facilities, friendly staff and free bread in the morning delivered to our boat.

Not the prettiest marina, but quite serviceable and monthly stays get a significant discount (30euros/day or 300/month for a 15m yacht).

Children’s park outside Armazen do Caffe, a short walk from the marina was recently remodelled and is amazing! Camping gaz available at 349 Rua Óscar da Silva. High-quality metalworking from Recambios Barreiros, Sucursal Em Portugal, Lda.

We stayed at Marina Porto Atlantico for 6 nights while exploring Porto. Entrance was extremely busy due to the 49er world championships taking place in that week, sailing dinghies and RIBs buzzing everywhere – fun to watch though.

Marina fairways a bit narrow, but help available during business hours (VHF 9). The visitor pontoons were often full and boats were sent away to the anchorage just outside the marina, which had good shelter in a northerly blow.

After a strong breeze for two nights, we had quite a lot of sand covering the boat, presumably from the beach on the other side of the breakwater. Nearest laundrette was the self-service one by the gas station (24-hour access due to being outdoors – nowhere to sit though!).

Marina facilities okay, Wifi very slow. The small chandlery in the marina office building delivered free bread to visiting boats every morning except Sunday. 15-minute walk north along the beach has a Continente supermarket which is open late on Sundays.

Many restaurants with grilled seafood on the road opposite the APDL office straight outside the marina. Bus into Porto (via Mar Shopping centre with multiple malls and Lidl) was €1.90 per person and stops in front of marina.

Metro (tram) from Matosinhos is a 15-minute walk across the bascule bridge, by the excellent municipal market. Same price, but much faster ride into Porto than the bus.

For catamarans, it is very small and difficult to manoeuvre esp. with strong winds, better to anchor outside.
