Description:

Port Salalah is the largest port in Oman and deals with a huge amount of commercial vessels on a daily basis. It is not suited for yachts and has no yachting facilities. An agent is needed in order to complete clearance formalities and as all our used to dealing with commercial vessels, yachts are of little interest and fees are high. Expect long waiting times and heavy costs. All yachts should contact the Port Captain for permission to enter.

Entrance Notes and Cautions:

  • Port of Salalah is entered from the NE between the East Breakwater and the Container Terminal.
  • Tidal range averages 1-2 m.
  • During the monsoon season (June to August) waves can be up to 4 m.
  • The navigation lights are reported as being in the perfect condition
indicating the fairway and the approach is without hazards. There is a
new, longer breakwater to the east and the container port has been
    extended.

Port Control listens on VHF: Ch 16, 12 (24h watch) and 2,182kHz (24h watch).

    Hello from SY ATENA.
The yacht was en-route from Djibouti to Dubai when an urgent diversion was needed to Salalah. After contacting all the big agencies such as GAC, Inchcape and Khimji Ramdas, we finally found Al Sahool Agency to be the most professional and helpful team! They quoted us immediately with a breakdown of costs for a private sailing yacht. All the others just send out a standard quotation they use for commercial ships with a price of at least 4,000 USD including tugboats, pilotage etc.

Therefore, I can say Al Sahool was extremely helpful from the start. They even helped secure berthing (not Anchorage), diesel and assisted with the collection and delivery of spares from the Volvo agent to the yacht crew.

    Here are their contacts:
    Mr. Omar Moosa
+968 9289 9961 [email protected] and [email protected]
    Mr. Jama +968 9949 2056

Salalah is not cheap since it’s a commercial port.
Our costs for a 14m sailboat were:
    Port fees @ 300 USD
    Customs @ 78 USD
    Agency Fees @ 390 USD
Customs Penalty for not having the port clearance to Salalah @ 260 USD
Diesel 600 L @ 623 USD (Special truck had to be arranged)

    Hope this helps!

Hernan from S/Y EGOIST, I didn’t have a good agency service from GAC, is expensive and don’t know anything about sailboats needings. USD 500 agent fee, they gave me a bad position on the port and then charge me for moving the boat.
