I stayed at the Marina di Nettuno one night in late April. Shelter in the marina is limited because there is no mole – just a 1 foot high floating dock without a breakwater. The town holds little charm. Loud noise from running generators on the ferries across the harbor all night long. I got quoted E100 but was made to pay E120 the next day. E100 was itself a very high amount given what is on offer here and the early season. There are alternatives to this place. There are moorings just North of the harbor and there are two other marinas just North as well. You won’t hear the generator noise that you hear in this harbor. —

NOTE: The marina is open to NNE/NE/E and NOT SE/S!!!!

I stayed in Marina Poseidon for several months, a spend also a winter month living aboard. On the first view, it looks poorly sheltered, but it is only in the very rare of some day long strong north-easterlies.
My boat was moored only on mooring lines (stern & bow!), having 2 hanging lines to the floating pontoon, just for safety. As the moorings are fixed on a heavy chain, they absorb the movements, and even with heavier seas it just feels like smooth sailing.
Paolo Cutelli, the owner is an experienced and helpful guy, who also speaks a little English. The staff is very polite and 24/7 care-taking.
Compared to the south of Sicily, it is a bit colder in winter, as you are more exposed to the northerly “Tramontana”, but therefore you are safe from the strong southerly storms of Sicily Strait. This has also the effect, that the boat stays much cleaner.

Milazzo offers all you need, it is not “over touristic”. Good restaurants and all shops in walking distance. The really big supermarket only in a car.
Airport Catania about 90 minutes by car.
Smaller boats can be lifted on land at one of the Cantieres in the harbour area, depending on your draft.
I have a 2 Meter draft and had to go, Abacus Marine, which is in the industrial area, about 3nm east of Milazzo. The travel lift is approx. (!) N38°12,6 E015°18,2 – but you need to arrange everything before you go there.

Correction to Marina Santa Maria Maggiore:
This marina is also open to NNE/NE/E and NOT SE/S! At strong easterlies, the yachts are transferred to the main port.

We stayed in Marina Poseidon. It had free water, electricity and WIFI (good outside antenna needed).
At good weather take a berth outside the concrete wave breaker pontoon. There are big waves from the ferries passing by so avoid mast collision with your neighbours during rolling. More comfortable on the inside. Helpful harbour master. Three marine chandlers on the boulevard.
