Description:

Lying immediately to the south of Andros, separated only by a narrow strait, Tinos is a green, mountainous, wooded island, extensively cultivated into terraces. It is dotted with small villages. Pyrgos, Panormos, and Volax are all “must visits” with Ormos Isternia an excellent lunch stop.

The town of Tinos is the main ferry port and capital, and twice a year (25 March & 15 August) sees the arrival of many sick pilgrims of the Orthodox faith, who visit the shrine in the church above the town looking for a cure.

Position:

37°32.17′N, 25°09.28′E (Tinos harbor entrance)

Tinos harbour is generally well protected although southerlies create something of a surge particularly on the old ferry quay. Beware however of the limited capacity of the yacht harbour – 10 to 12 yachts. The oft-mentionned “chain” lies very close to the north mole and is not a normal threat.
The island is charming; Pyrgos, Panormos, and Volax are all “must visits” with Ormos Isternia an excellent lunch stop.

Tinos town has good facilities including a gas shop for parts and repairs, two small chandleries (one near the ferry terminal and one at the foot of the rise that leads to the monument).

Petrol and diesel within walking distance with a jerry can or two. We needed work done on a diesel head and found Apergis Auto Marine thoroughly professional and equipped with all the right tools. Excellent service even mid-summer!
