Description:

Playa Blanca is a sheltered bay on the south coast of Lanzarote, next to the protected peaks of Los Ajaches and a short sail from Papagayo’s superb beaches.  The port is Government-run [https://puertoscanarios.es/], but the independent Marina Rubicón is also located here in the heart of the tourist center of Playa Blanca. Visiting yachts are only accepted in Marina Rubicon due to lack of space in the main port. See docking below for details.

Cruiser Highlights:

A favoured spot for sailors and offshore cruisers, Marina Rubicón’s attractive village is replete with restaurants, shops, a diving centre, sailing school and outdoor pool. A pleasant waterfront provides easy access to the nearby beach and bustling local town of Playa Blanca.

Position:

We stayed at Marina Rubicon few days in November 2019. The staff is very professional and WIFI good. Many restaurants and shops in front of he harbor and a supermarket across the street near the car petrol station. The marina is very secure and a good stop to rend a car to visit the Island. Car rental office near the swimming pool.

We telephoned the marina on the last week of October 2018 to ask about their rates. We have a 13m boat and they said that they do not have space for that measurement but would offer a berth for a boat 16m and still we´d have to pay that rate although out the boat is shorter! We didn´t take it and they didn`t mind keeping that berth empty.

We anchored at the Papagayo beach (near the marina)and had no problems during strong winds and swell (although the swell wasn´t a treat.) Anchor held perfectly, however, and we loved our stay at Southern Lanzarote. We went snorkelling and left our dinghy at the beach while we strolled up to the restaurants on top. Great views.

We stayed at Marina Rubincon in November 2017. We had our rigging checked by an expert in the boatyard. The work was done very thorough and it was price worthy (120 euros for a check and re-tensioning of standing rigging). Communication with the boatyard was very easy. Cecile, the spokesperson, speaks Spanish, German, English and Dutch.

The marina had all the facilities one can ask for, even a swimming pool. We weren’t digging the surroundings, it’s very touristic. We can recommend to provision for the Atlantic crossing in Arrecife (Mercadona has everything you need and is cheap), using the car hire service in Playa Blanca. They even have an agent right next to the reception in the marina. We never experienced such a relaxed car hire agency. Rubincon is a great marina to prepare an Atlantic crossing, but a bit pricey.

    Reported by Maria Wadsworth:
    16th September 2017

Arrived about 07.30, radioed in and advised to go in and were waved at from the waiting pontoon. After booking in when the office opened at 09.00 the Marinero helped us to our berth.
Wifi was a bit hit and miss (unreliable).
    Some recycling at the marina.
Really nice purpose-built area for tourists.
    Very clean toilets and showers.

Agree with mariasailingworld. However, the WIFI is spotty in different areas; our experience has been frustrating at pontoon E1. For technical services, we found an excellent German boat builder to replace the base on our hydraulic AP. His name is Gunnar Sass (+34 657 363 442). Highly recommended.

Third time in Marina Rubicon and it was even better than last year. They improved WIFI connection by an optical fibre. Very high speed now! Nice marina and fantastic location. Sailing and anchoring in Papagayo 1 mile away from the marina during the day and having dinner at night in some of the restaurants…it was great!

We confirm a very nice marina well managed. The price is very good (38€+tax for a 16mt) with all-inclusive services, pool also. Many bar & restaurant, a market with handcrafted items by locals on Wednesday and Sunday. Toilet and shower are clean and close to all pontoons. We love the waterfront to Playa Blanca with a nice beach and very cool water (better than the pool).

I’ve been recent to Marina Rubicon and I have to say it is wonderful! This is not working anymore like that, because I arrived at 21:00 pm, I paid just for a night and I could leave the following day at the same time. What’s more, there was no kind of problem!! Very nice girls working at the reception!!

We´ve just been in Marina Rubicón for the second time and were really impressed of the new changes. We did like it the first time but this time was even better. They have dropped their prices with better services. They also have a new promotion for new boats stoping at the marina. We couldn´t have it but our friends did and had the first night for free. Loved it!

    Noonsite Team says:

Be aware, if you arrive before the office opens in the morning (0700) you will be charged for the previous night regardless of what time you arrived. e.g. I arrived at 0500 and had to pay for that night even though I was on the waiting pontoon and had no facilities. It was also expensive – €29 per night for a 9m and the marina is surrounded by bars which play loud music until midnight.

Price band runs 10-13 m so smaller boats pay a premium
