Great spot in NW winds as good shelter from high rock wall and swell coming in to the Ria. In strong NE shelter can still be found in this bay, but better to anchor more near the middle of the beach (to the east) as strong gusts tend to funnel down the valley at the western end of the beach. This anchorage is popular but big, so there’s lots of space. Anchor in 8m with a sandy bottom, good holding. Swell can work its way in here and sometimes fisherman can be a bit annoying, especially when driving fast through the bay at a 4am to pick up their crab pots. Roly anchorages however are common in this part of Galicia.
Beautiful clear water and great for snorkelling, paddle boarding, kayaking and wild swimming. The beach is a nudist beach, and many yachtsmen sunbathe nude here too. There is a little beach bar in the middle of the beach that is open high season. It is possible to get bread and limited supplies from a small shop up the hill at the far eastern end of the beach. In high season it’s possible to order bread from the little hut at the car park at the eastern end of the beach. No other services though. Great walks around the perimeter of the headland to Cabo de Home and La Caracola tapas bar (and sculpture) at Donon (great gin and tonics! and awesome views of the sunset).
