We anchored here with strong northerlies blowing. Good protection and you can get in quite close to the beach. We picked a spot close to the yellow swim buoys so we could dinghy easily into the beach (there’s a passage down the left hand side of the buoys). It’s convenient for shopping in Porto Novo (as off the town there there’s really no space to anchor). It was a 10 minute walk to the shops and there’s lots of cafes around the bay. Porto Novo has small supermarkets, fish market, pharmacies, bread shops etc. The marina there looked packed with local boats, so don’t think they take visitors (or not often). There’s a boatyard there with a 100 ton travelift if you needed an emergency lift out – but no security at all for your boat. The downside of this anchorage was the ugly burnt out Hotel on the shore (Hotel Talaso Costa) which was an eyesore, and the numerous boats hurtling past very fast to get into Porto Novo, causing frequent wake. We used it simply to re-provision and then moved on, choosing to overnight further east in the more protected bay of Playa Area de Agra.
