Blog Started in 2014:  Update 2021

Serafina has a new owner and she’s ready for some new adventures, as are Syd and Birgit with a grandchild arriving, the pandemic hopefully waning and many options to explore.

Syd Stapleton and Birgit Petersen bought their 1990-launched Cape George 36 in 2010 and spent four years (and plenty of treasure) preparing for extended cruising and passages at sea. Syd has a 200 ton Master’s License for power and sail, and Syd and Birgit have many decades of boat ownership and sailing experience. They left Seattle in September of 2014, sailed down the Pacific Coast of North America, through the Panama Canal, to Cuba, Florida and across the Atlantic. Their goal was to spend time in the Mediterranean, and since passing through the Straits of Gibraltar in July of 2015 they have cruised in Spain, Italy and Greece (with a short sojourn in Albania). They winter in Licata, Sicily, and as of this moment, they have no plans other than to continue living in the Med. The future may, at some point, include a return sail to Seattle.
