Daniela and Jens-Uwe live aboard their HR40 "Arwen" and are currently cruising Colombia/Panama.

Last December (2011), whilst cruising Colombia, they heard about a problem with failed Selden mast fittings on long distance cruising boats undertaking long periods of sailing using only the genoa. Selden were recalling all faulty parts and replacing them free of charge.

Their boat has a Selden mast and fitted the catagory of genoa sailing exactly.

This is their story of the process from first contacting Selden, to finally getting their mast fixed in Cartagena several months later by Richard the Rigger (Richard Brooker, located in Linton, Panama. E-mail: [email protected]). It emerged that the welding of the forestay fitting was way too weak and the new part's welding is at least 4 times stronger than the old one.

Selden reimbursed them for all the repair costs.
