Visit to Gran Cayman – April 2010

Published 14 years ago, updated 5 years ago

In April 2010 we visited Gran Cayman.

Port Authority on VHF 16 is very helpful and directed us to an orange mooring north of the piers of St. George.

You can clear in outside office hours and on weekends at an extra fee of $75. If you don’t mind waiting, it is free of charge. You can not go on shore before being cleared in. You will be called by Port Authority to come alongside the dock for clearance.

Everyone is very friendly, but you need to be patient.

We found the anchorage at St. George rolly in an SW wind and went into Governor’s Creek in the lagoon. The Maxsea charts are very accurate and we did measure at least 2.3 meters (7 ft) at low tide. Despite what most pilots say, larger yachts actually can enter this anchorage (as locals do as well) without trouble and it is very nicely protected.
