Milos

Be very careful going stern to the quay, stay at least 3-4mtr. off the pontoon and get over with the dinghy. The Vodaphon Ferry who comes in twice a day creates havoc for yachties. I’ve seen 8 boats destroyed on one evening. Police do not help, they don’t even come. If possible, stay at anchor.

Santorini / Thira

There is no place to leave your boat safe. Stay in Ios and take the Ferry.

The so-called Marina Vlikadha does not exist because it is filled with tripper and fishing boats. If you dare entering there you are in trouble with the locals. Don’t try, big trouble and in any case, the channel is silted. And there is no advice on VHF either…

We did stay at the Vlikadha marina in Santorini. It is a tight entry but really not difficult. The ancient mole has a yellow ball buoy at the end. The inside basin is shallow and measure 8.5′ on our depth sounder. It is inexpensive, they took our reservation by phone the day before and answered our call on VHF on approach. They were very helpful and arranged for delivery of a 15 euro scooter for us so we could explore the island.

There are “cruisers notes” on our blog for Santorini.

Astypalaia

We spent one night anchored in the much protected Vathi Bay on Astypalaia on the way to Santorini.

Santorini

We tied up in the marina on the south shore of Santorini at 36°20.19N x 25°26.04E. We touched bottom on the way in, we draw 1.9 meters. They are doing some dredging with a clamshell so the depth should improve.

Since we arrived on May 2nd 2009, after the end of April, the fee of 20€ per night was in place. There is excellent wifi and free power and water if your hose and power cable are long enough. We enjoyed our time here, we sat out a big blow. The marina is very basic with friendly staff and we were able to walk off the boat and do the sightseeing we intended. Santorini is beautiful and well worth a visit.
