Following a request posted on noonsite on 1 September by LCDR Morash of the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), for assistance from yachts intending to form convoys through the Gulf of Aden, we have been asked to subsequently post the following message;

LCDR Morash has completed his pilot test of his concept on the ability of the MSSIS system to use AIS transponders to track vessels. He appreciates the overwhelming support from the sailing community to help forward this global concept.

“Your assistance has shown that the Maritime Safety and Security Information System (MSSIS) can track AIS fitted vessels provided they are in range of the MSSIS installations in the Gulf of Aden. This technology will help expand global Maritime Domain Awareness and your help has furthered that goal to assist in that effort”.

LCDR Morash asks that mariners do not contact him to request escort, or the state of naval operations in the Gulf of Aden; although he appreciates the past efforts to help his pilot MSSIS test this past month.
