The coastline between Rio and Santos is called Costa Verde and is a magnificent area for the sailor with hundreds of tropical islands and secluded white sandy beaches. Fish of all kinds abound and the weather stable and without sudden surprises. Prevailing winds East – South East.

ANGRA DOS REIS – One of the best and most popular yachting areas in Brazil. Top marinas like Piratas Mall and Verolme etc. Baia Isla Grande has hundreds of little islands and beaches. Many American and European yacht charter companies are represented here. Good restaurants, some excellent hotels, (Frade) and all facilities. Angra also has several excellent golf courses. The hire of boats on a bareboat basis is restricted to the sheltered Baia Grande area with 365 beaches and numerous islands. Coastal sailing and land approaches by night are not recommended as there are few lighthouses and almost no coastal navigation marks. In addition much unlit fishing gear.

PARATI – moorings at the main public pier and many smaller marinas in the bay. Sheltered anchorages. An interesting and picturesque town with all facilities.

UBATUBA – good and sheltered anchorage in the old fishing port East of the town center. Ubatuba Yachting Club has its own stone pier and welcomes visitors. Fuel and water from the slipway in the old fishing port. Interesting holiday resort with excellent and reasonable restaurants. All facilities.

SACO DA RIBEIRA – UBATUBA – One of the best and sheltered yachting areas on the coast with a large expanse of moorings on the trot in the sheltered bay. Regular ferry service to the public pier frequented by charter “escunas” and fishing boats. An attractive Marina Condominium is under construction here equipped with 31´ fast runabout and beach buggy for trips in the Mata Atlantica. Regular escuna trips to surrounding islands and beaches including the former prison colony of Ilha Anchieta.

SAO SEBASTIAO/ILHABELA – Old town and oil terminal for large tankers. Regular ferry-boat service to beautiful Ilhabela. Sheltered moorings and anchorages along the West shore of the island with several yachting clubs and marinas. Excellent beaches and picturesque trails with many waterfalls. Many excellent restaurants. Many millionaire villas. Crowded roads in main holiday periods. Also lovely beaches South West of Sao Sebastiao all the way to Santos and famous GUARAJA seaside resort with good yachting facilities and marinas. A trip to the megaton of Sao Paulo in the hills North of Santos takes about 1 hour. Santos has a very long and excellent beach with a magnificent promenade with many activities. Santos is a very old seaport with many interesting although somewhat decaying buildings from its heydays. All facilities and excellent restaurants.
