Colombia to Aruba: Missing Dutch Sailor on SY Jeri

By Sue Richards — last modified Jan 21, 2013 03:18 PM
Jan Frederik Wüstenhoff has been missing since 22 December 2012. He departed his last port of call: Haven Santa Marta, Colombia, South America on 22 December 2012, destination Aruba. So far, he has not arrived in Aruba.

Countries: Colombia , Aruba

Frederik left Colombia, headed to Aruba to celebrate the new year with his Dutch friends who live there.
His family contacted Marina Santa Marta when his arrival in Aruba was overdue, and indeed he did leave on the 22 December 2012. Since then there has been no trace at all of Frederik.

Frederik's family and friends are understandably very concerned and are asking fellow sailors to assist in the search for Frederick, who is now officially a "missing person". In Aruba the Rescue and Coordination Centre of the local coastguard have been alerted and it is hoped they are contacting the coastguards of the surrounding countries to try and find out any information about SY Jeri.

If anyone can assist with advice or tips for the family to aid in their search, please contact them via their website

  • What would have been the most logical route for SY Jeri from Colombia to Aruba - based on the prevailing weather conditions at the time of passage?
  • Which ports of refuge could he have sought should he have needed shelter?
  • Any other useful advice or tips?

Full details about Frederick and his boat can be found below:
